Rename & organize your downloads
SnaqTik · 2026-10-07
Fifty files called video(23).mp4 are impossible to search. A simple naming pattern plus a few topic folders turns them into a library you can actually use.
A naming pattern that works
YYYY-MM-DD_creator_topic.mp4 — for example 2026-10-07_chefana_garlic-noodles.mp4. The date first sorts files in order; the creator name helps you credit them; the topic makes search work.
Folders by purpose
- Recipes, Workouts, Music, Inspiration, Family… whatever you save most.
- Keep a To sort folder; empty it once a week.
Batch renaming
- Windows: select files → F2 → type a name → Enter. Windows numbers them
name (1),name (2)…; Microsoft PowerToys "PowerRename" does find-and-replace. - Mac: select → right-click → Rename → Format.
- Android: most file managers allow multi-select → Rename.
- iPhone: Files app renames one at a time; the Shortcuts app can rename in batches.
Back it up
One copy is no copy. Keep the library on your computer and on a cloud drive or USB disk. Moving files between devices: phone to computer.
Frequently asked questions
Does renaming affect the video?
No. The name is just a label; the content is unchanged.
Should I keep the creator's name in the file?
Yes — it makes it easy to credit or find the original post later.
Can I tag videos instead of using folders?
On Mac, Finder tags work well; on Windows and phones, folders plus good names are simpler.
Paste a TikTok link, pick a format, done. Free, HD, watermark-free.
