Downloaded video not in Gallery?

SnaqTik · 2026-10-07

If the download finished but the clip is not in your Gallery, it is almost always in the Download folder, just not indexed yet — or, on iPhone, sitting in the Files app. Here is how to surface it.

On iPhone

Safari never saves to Photos directly. Open Files → Downloads, tap the video, then Share → Save Video. Full walkthrough: where Safari saves downloads.

On Android

  1. Open the Files / File Manager app → Download. If the video is there, the file is fine.
  2. Open your Gallery and look for an album named Download — many galleries do not show it in the main timeline.
  3. Restart the phone or wait a few minutes; the media scanner adds new files periodically.
  4. In Google Photos, enable the Download folder under Library → Photos on device.

Hidden by a .nomedia file

If you saved into a custom folder, check that it does not contain a file called .nomedia — it tells galleries to ignore everything in that folder. Move the video to Download or Movies.

It is truly missing

Then the download never completed. Check the browser's download list for an error, free up storage (storage guide) and try again.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the video appear in Files but not in Gallery?

The gallery has not indexed it yet, or hides the Download album. Moving the file to the Movies or DCIM folder usually makes it appear immediately.

Will moving the file break it?

No. Moving or copying within your phone keeps the video intact.

I use a memory card — does that matter?

If the browser saves to the SD card, look in the card's Download folder in your file manager.
