Avoid fake TikTok downloader apps
SnaqTik · 2026-10-07
Many "TikTok downloader" apps are fine; some are not. APKs from outside the Play Store and browser extensions with broad permissions are the riskiest. A website needs no permissions at all.
Red-flag permissions
| Permission | Why it is suspicious |
|---|---|
| Read SMS / call logs | Not needed to save a video; used for OTP theft |
| Accessibility service | Can read and tap anything on screen |
| Display over other apps | Used for fake overlays and ads |
| "Read and change all data on all websites" (extensions) | Can see your passwords and banking pages |
| Install unknown apps | Can install more apps behind your back |
APK files from websites
An APK downloaded from a random site skips Google Play's checks. "Mod" versions of TikTok are a common way to spread malware and steal accounts. If a site pushes an APK on you to "download faster", leave.
Safer options
- Use a downloader website in your browser — no install, no permissions.
- Want an icon? Install SnaqTik as a web app; it stays sandboxed like any website.
- If you use a store app, check its reviews, developer name and requested permissions first.
Already installed something dodgy?
- Uninstall it (Settings → Apps).
- Run Google Play Protect (Play Store → profile → Play Protect → Scan).
- Change your TikTok and email passwords and turn on 2-step verification.
Frequently asked questions
Are all downloader apps dangerous?
No. But a website does the same job without access to your phone, so the risk is lower.
Is "TikTok Mod APK" safe?
Modified TikTok apps are unofficial, break TikTok's terms and are a frequent malware source. Avoid them.
Does SnaqTik have an APK?
No. SnaqTik is only a website (installable as a web app). Any "SnaqTik APK" is not ours.
Paste a TikTok link, pick a format, done. Free, HD, watermark-free.
