How to clip and trim TikTok videos

Quick trims on iPhone: the Photos app

For a single, simple cut, you don't need to install anything extra — the trim tool built into your phone already handles it in a few taps, and it won't touch the original file unless you tell it to. On iPhone:

• Open the downloaded video in Photos and tap Edit.
• Drag the handles at either end of the filmstrip at the bottom of the screen to set your new start and end points.

Android's built-in trim tool works much the same way, though the exact app and menu wording varies by phone maker, since manufacturers each customize their own camera and gallery apps a little differently:

• Drag the trim markers on the timeline to the section you want to keep.

• Multiple cuts. Removing several sections from the middle, not just trimming the ends.

• Transitions. Blending two clips together smoothly instead of a hard, jarring cut.
• Reordering or combining clips pulled from more than one download into a single edit.

Keep the trimmed export at full quality

Every time a video is exported, it gets re-encoded — and re-encoding loses a little quality, even when it's not obvious on a single pass. Trim once, export at the highest quality setting your editor offers, and avoid the loop of trimming, exporting, then re-importing that export just to trim it again. Each extra round adds a bit more compression on top of the last, and it adds up faster than people expect.
